Ordered in 1998 at Van Der Giessen - De Noord
by Strintzis Lines, was initially thought for the service Brindisi - Patras
with the name “Superferry Atlantic”. When the company changed the name in “Blue
Star Ferries” the ship was renamed “Blue Star 1”, a Superfast-style name, changing also the line for Ancona - Brindisi
- Patras, for a sailing time of 21 and 9 hours. I travelled aboard this ship on
22/08/00 from Patras to Ancona: the ship is splendid and, despite all the fast
ferries in Greece - Italy services is also punctual (when not early!); she is
the only ship which uses all the entrances: the bow one at Patras and the stern
ones at Brindisi and Ancona. Her only lack? The open spaces are very small and
occupied by travellers without accomodation. From 2001 season she’ll stop
calling at Brindisi, diverting to Igoumenitsa on her Ancona – Patras line only
from April to October. On 2002 the call
at Igoumenitsa became regular, substituting the same service of Superfast Ferries. However this substitution should
not last many time, this because Blue Star Ferries has the intention to gain
two licences to operate this ship and her sister to Kos and Rhodes. In fact,
the ship has started this service from 22/07/02. This is another fact that
convinces me the negativity of the union between Attica Enterprises and
Strintzis Lines…

The
“Blue Star 1” as it would have been in Strintzis colours with the name
“Superferry Atlantic”
